Betafence solutions for all security requirements

Companies in the oil and gas industry are globally more and more confronted by breaches of their company perimeter. Unauthorized penetration or vandalism are genuine risks, by consequence these companies require effective perimeter security solutions for their infrastructure. We discussed this subject with two professionals from Betafence, the world market leader in security fencing, access control and detection systems. The company realized a turnover of 500 million Euro in 2008 and is active in over 100 countries.

Project approach

Betafence is an expert in the development of total solutions for perimeter security, including demanding sectors with sensitive industrial sites like the petrochemical industry.

Security at any level

Petrochemical sites are often characterized by a combination of various types of activities, specifically the actual extraction via pumping, the processing of the raw material, the transportation via pipelines and its storage.

"Reliable perimeter protection is required for each of those activities, with different levels of security," says Jurgen Schroyen. "Our fences are designed to the level required; they have a dissuasive effect, constitute a major delaying factor and offer an active security with access control, detection and deterrence."

The versatility of Betafence in this field is expressed in numerous large-scale projects worldwide.

The largest gas supplier in France entrusted its perimeter protection of its methane gas terminals to Betafence. "This was quite a challenge", says Jurgen Schroyen, "because of the scale of the project, the corrosive environment and the fact that the panel fencing (with integrated detection system) had to be designed to fit the existing posts. Furthermore, by using a special double polyester coating, Betafence could assure a 10 year guarantee".

The Gasco-pipeline in Abu Dhabi was protected with a dissuasive fence over the full length of 360 km.

Oil and gas company Total, appointed Betafence for the perimeter protection of their oil storage facilities in Bruges (Belgium). A robust security fence combined with several automated cantilever sliding gates was installed.
