Sales and the 'Talent Magnet'

A lot is written about being a ‘Talent Magnet’, either as a company, or as President. It’s all good practice – listen, mentor, reward, provide clear goals and career maps. Good practice for the employer, but what about the employee?

BJ Pipeline Inspection Services is a leading provider of pipeline inspection services around the world. When you partner with BJ to assist you with your pipeline integrity needs, you have access to the best in high resolution MFL (VECTRA™) and geometry inspection (GEOPIG™) tools for accurate in-line inspection detection and measurement, as well as the best ally for your comprehensive pipeline integrity management program.

BJ’s GEOPIG is a high-resolution caliper tool that combines an inertial measurement unit (IMU), caliper arms and other sensors to provide the most accurate assessment of pipeline curvature, strain, dents, wrinkles, buckles, ovality and other anomalies, all in one tool run. The processed IMU data provides you with precise GPS information for every anomaly reported in the pipeline.

BJ’s VECTRA magnetic flux leakage (MFL) tool incorporates a unique combination of technologies: gas bypass with active speed control, tri-axial sensors, and IMU. The gas bypass system allows you to maintain full product throughput, and thus full revenue, during the inspection run. The active speed control system helps the VECTRA tool maintain a steady speed throughout the run, assuring the best data collection possible. BJ’s industry-leading tri-axial sensor technology, introduced to the market a decade ago, continues to evolve and provide accurate anomaly detection and sizing, including narrow axial corrosion, typically not detectable with a standard axial MFL tool. The IMU provides the same precise location, bending strain and curvature measurements as with the GEOPIG tool. The data from both VECTRA and GEOPIG tools is easily imported into your GIS software, facilitating your integrity management decisions.

BJ’s GEMINIView™ software allows you to view 3-dimensional representations of anomalies as well as the entire pipeline, providing clarity and ease of understanding. GEMINIView software combines GEOPIG and VECTRA tool results on one screen so that you can, for example, investigate a dent and determine if it has metal loss associated with it.

One of the most exciting recent advances in BJ’s data analysis capabilities is the detection and accurate sizing of dents and other physical deformation of the pipeline with the VECTRA MFL tool. This analysis has allowed us to accurately detect dents with features such as through-wall cracks or gouges on them. The combination of MFL, physical deformation and IMU information not only provides you with a tremendous amount of information from one tool run, but saves you the cost of running up to three separate tools to gather the same information.

Another recent advance in data analysis is BJ’s industry leading run-to-run corrosion growth modelling capabilities, providing accurate corrosion growth rates calculated from the data obtained from two MFL tool runs.

Once you have all of this information, what do you do with it? BJ’s integrity management department, with years of pipeline operating experience, is available to help you with your ongoing integrity management planning. Our integrity management department can assist you with data management and trending, defect assessment and repair decisions, and regulatory compliance, to name a few services.

Through our parent company, BJ Process and Pipeline Services, we also offer pipeline cleaning, hydrotesting, purging, commissioning and other related services
