Lloyds Register | www.lr.org

To enhance the safety of life and property at sea and on land, we work with businesses around the world. We help our clients face today’s challenges and plan for tomorrow and beyond. With years of experience and our leading edge expertise we take a broader perspective to add value in the short and long term. We believe safety, sustainability and performance are linked. They are an intrinsic part of our holistic approach when working with our clients – for a safer world.

The combination of our asset knowledge, deep technical expertise and ability to generate value quickly allows us to make a vital contribution to asset management and safety assurance across the energy supply chain including exploration, production, transportation, processing, refining, power generation, transmission and distribution.

Our global capability for asset owners, operators, engineering procurement contractors (EPCs) and manufacturers, is tailored to the needs of stakeholders in upstream, downstream, power and manufacturing sectors of the energy industry. From concept, evaluation and design, through manufacture, in-service operation and maintenance, to plant-life extension and decommissioning, we help clients meet their legislative and corporate responsibilities effectively through three broad categories of services - compliance, technical consulting and business solutions. We provide services across the full asset lifecycle.

Compliance services

Our compliance services help clients demonstrate their assets conform to national and international regulations (certification), goal based standards and procedures (verification) or Lloyd's Register's Rules (classification). While these services may be provided separately or as a package throughout the life of an asset, our approach to delivering compliance services is always tailored to meet the individual needs of our clients.

These services include, for example:

  • co-ordination of independent monitoring and verification of major capital projects
  • confirmation of compliance through design appraisal, survey at manufacturers' sites, witnessing installation and commissioning
  • advice on achieving regulatory compliance
  • risk-based, as well as rule-based classification project quality system appraisal
  • inspection and certification of all types of pressure containing equipment according to any recognised standard
  • welder and weld procedure qualification services to EN standards and ASME code requirements
  • certification of compliance with EC directives for many products
  • global vendor inspection and expediting services during the procurement process
  • asset management services including training and validation against the requirements of the standard for asset management BSI PAS 55
  • operating contractor registration schemes on behalf of utilities companies.

Technical consulting

We offer a comprehensive range of specialist services to support our clients in the cost-effective design and operation of their assets. Our specialist knowledge across all disciplines enables us to provide niche solutions and, the analysis of asset-specific and industry data and processes, ensures that our integrity strategies are focused on operational and safety critical areas.

Using our solutions, design, inspection and maintenance decisions can be taken with confidence, enabling operators to optimise use over the asset lifecycle. Our services are offered within the following general disciplines:

  • pipeline engineering
  • subsea engineering
  • fixed and floating structures' technology
  • corrosion engineering
  • safety technology
  • environmental engineering
  • engineering design consulting
  • materials and NDE technology
  • process plant and machinery engineering
  • electrical and control engineering
  • software systems.

For example:

  • engineering studies and advice in all discipline areas
  • technical assessment of plant and process performance, safety, and reliability
  • asset integrity services including risk-based inspection, corrosion management, lifetime extension studies of facilities and plant, etc
  • environmental engineering including landfill studies, due diligence assessments, review of environmental risk studies and environmental impact assessments
  • quantitative and qualitative risk assessment which may include HAZOP, FME(C)A, and FTA studies

Business solutions

Our business solutions help clients design, implement and sustain value adding business change through a range of performance improvement solutions, training and management systems services. This directly supports our vision of ensuring safe, reliable and sustainable energy supply chains.

For example:

How can we help you?

The recognition of the need for enhanced safety and asset performance has greatly improved in the energy industry in recent years, but there still needs to be more awareness and understanding of how assets should be managed particularly as economic growth resumes. Increasing demand for energy will require that the life of existing assets has to be extended.

The Energy business at Lloyd's Register is well-placed to advise the industry on asset lifecycles at any point in the supply chain. Our team has an in-depth knowledge of all the materials, components, systems and operational complexities involved with the energy industry's often large-scale capital intensive and high-risk assets.  This expertise equips us to advise at every stage, from initial concept through to construction, operation and decommissioning: an end-to end approach to physical assets.
