PBL multiple activation bypass system

The activation of the tool is enabled by the dropping of an Opening vinyl ball and to return to drilling mode at any time, by dropping two Closing steel balls. Originally developed to enable the aggressive pumping of LCM pills and increase circulation rates, the PBL has evolved to benefit many applications in the drilling, completion and workover phases of a well such as:

• Pumping LCM (Loss Circulation Material)
• Increasing circulation rates for improved hole cleaning
• Fluid displacements
• Horizontal acidizing and stimulation
• Coring applications
• Sub-sea riser/BOP jetting

In addition the PBL has several unique features:

• The PBL tool will when the pumps are shut down minimizing a tubing effect or possible well control issues that can occur in other tools.
• The Auto-lock option, which allows for pulling a dry drill-string or filling the drill-string while tripping in the hole, is accomplished by dropping a Locking Ball and engaging the Locking Ball in one of the two open orifices. The Locking Ball can be sheared through the orifice at a set pressure to allow the fluid to return to normal drilling mode. The auto-lock option provides an option to reverse circulate if necessary.
• The PBL can be cycled numerous times in a single trip limited to the length of the Ball Catcher Cage.
• The Ball shearing pressure can be set to the operator’s preference.
• The Main Body and the Ball Catcher Sub can be placed in different sections of the BHA to optimise hole conditions and Drill-string operations.

PBL SLIDING SLEEVE BIG BORE

The Sliding Sleeve Big Bore (SSBB) has been designed to answer the drilling industries need for an efficient circulating sub that can be used in conjunction with MWD’s equipped with retrievable probes and/or other downhole tools that require larger ID clearances. The SSBB is available in 6-3/4”, 8-1/4” and 9-1/2” tool sizes. The 4-3/4” SSBB can be supplied on request. The Sliding Sleeve Big Bore tool is activated by the dropping of a dart, which engages the Seat of the tool and depresses the spring loaded piston, allowing the fluid to be diverted through the open ports. The Dart is retrieved by wire-line, and the tool is re-set for drilling mode.

An addition to the PBL Range of Tools is the SPLIT FLOW DART

The Split Flow Dart has been designed to assist in drilling, completion and work-over operations. It will allow a pre-calculated amount of drilling or completion fluid to pass through the PBL tool and on to the BHA below and the remaining fluid to be by-passed out of the PBL tool ports. By splitting the flow, the operator is able to have more control over available hydraulics and hole cleaning parameters.

The Split Flow Dart incorporates a jet nozzle mounted in a cone shaped dart and contains a shear ring manufactured from the same material as the PBL activation balls and utilises the same proven technology to land, activate and shear through the seat.
