It’s a daily workhorse for the most extreme climates on the planet, yet refined in temperament and control, offering an expansive cabin for flexibility in personnel and cargo, plus dual digital automatic controls for flexibility in future growth. There’s no such thing as an offshore mission impossible for the Bell 412EP.
The Bell Helicopter 412EP twin turbine helicopter is an advanced technology design with excellent reliability and dependability derived from the rich heritage of the Bell Huey series. More than 10,000 helicopters based on this famous parentage have been built in 26 versions and have accumulated over 50 million flight hours. These various helicopters are serving the military and commercial needs of over 115 countries throughout the world. The latest version of this venerable series is the Bell 412EP. The 412EP incorporates basically the same fuselage and new technology dynamic components available in the world such as rotors, transmission, drive system, and engines. This combination of established fuselage and new technology dynamics is proving outstanding success in performing both offshore and oil and gas exploration missions. The 412EP excels in reliability, economy of operation, and safety.
The Bell 412 EP was designed with safety in mind. The primary design parameters of the Bell 412EP emphasize safety in every aspect of the aircraft. All critical flight systems are either duplicated or isolated to meet or exceed the specifications of FAR Part 29 Category A. Redundant load paths are incorporated throughout all safety-of-flight components, such as the main rotor blades, transmission attachment, and flight control linkage. Fuselage integrity is ensured through roll-over bulkheads at the front and rear of the cabin. The 1,251 liter fuel supply is contained in rupture-resistant fabric and rubber cells interconnected with break-away self-sealing fittings. The proven, reliable Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6T-3D Twin-Pac turbines, with 25 million flight hours in more than 2,000 aircraft worldwide, provide 1,022 kilowatts of power to the 412EP giving excellent hot day and high altitude performance. If one engine is shut down, the other compensates with the power necessary for safe single engine operation. The 412EP incorporates a four bladed main rotor. The advanced design rotor system combines smooth, quiet, low vibration operation with hot and high hover performance and high cruise speed capability. The composite fiberglass rotor blades are interchangeable and will not corrode. The simplicity of the main rotor hub’s design eliminates mechanical hinges and reduces maintenance by using elastomeric bearings that eliminate lead-lag dampers. Energy-attenuating bucket seats are provided for the pilot and front passenger. Each seat has a safety belt and double strap shoulder harness with and inertia-reel.
The Bell 412EP is safe, but not at the expense of comfort and ease of configuration. The spacious cabin of the 412EP, encompassing a volume of 6.2 cubic meters, is easily entered through the wide opening sliding passenger doors, and provides comfortable seating for thirteen offshore crew members. And with a 181 kilogram capacity in the 0.79 cubic meter baggage compartment located in the aft, there is plenty of room for all the crew’s luggage. If cargo transport is required, the seats in the passenger compartment can be removed quickly and easily to use the passenger compartment as a cargo area. The passenger cabin sliding door and panel door on each side of the fuselage provide unobstructed openings 2.35 meters wide by 1.24 meters high to accommodate a forklift. The floor in the cargo area can be loaded to a maximum of 488 kilograms per square meter. The 412 EP has a 2,286 kilogram useful load lifting capability.
The Bell 412EP is engineered for reliability and ease of maintenance. Built-in steps and work platforms, along with plentiful access panels, doors, and inspection windows provide for quick and thorough pre-flight checks and servicing. Primary components and systems are designed for routine servicing while remaining installed on the aircraft. Major service intervals are among the longest in the rotorcraft industry due to Bell’s traditionally long Time Between Overhaul/Retirement Life components.
The Bell Helicopter 412EP has the highest dispatch reliability of any twin engine aircraft, and the lowest seat mile cost in its class. Aside from safety, reliability, maintainability and efficiency, the 412EP also offers flexibility for future growth. Only a truly accomplished helicopter can claim these advantages, and no other helicopter can meet the most demanding offshore mission requirements in the most demanding of conditions head on. The Bell 412EP has exceeded all others in its class, where it counts, delivering powerful performance, great value, superior safety and true versatility. Bell Helicopter is dedicated to providing you with the right aircraft for the right mission every time. Fly Smart. Fly Bell.
