ExplorationRecent findings of new major oil and gas reserves in Siberia and the Caspian Sea suggest that these regions might hold even more surprises for geologists and geophysicists. And even though with current production levels Russia is considered to be the number one oil and gas producing country in the world, its petroleum industry is spending increasing amounts of money on exploration activities. The untapped reserves of Artic shelf and Eastern Siberia promise Russia a great future in the years to come, however exploration and development of these territories will require not only huge investments but also the most innovative and advanced technologies in order to overcome severe climatic conditions. The Caspian region is also attracting its fair share of investments. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan is planning to spend over $250 million on exploration in the nest 10 years, while Gazprom is investing $260 million over the next 3 years on exploration of Ustyurt region in Uzbekistan.
